Jojoba Oil
Jojoba Oil
A golden liquid wax pressed from desert jojoba seeds — so close in structure to skin's own oil that it absorbs cleanly and suits almost everyone. Hover any measure to see where jojoba sits on the scale.
What it is
Jojoba is unusual — chemically it isn't really an oil at all, but a liquid wax ester. That structure happens to be remarkably close to sebum, the oil your own skin produces, which is why jojoba absorbs cleanly and tends to suit oily, dry and sensitive skin alike.
Because it's a wax rather than a true oil, jojoba is extraordinarily stable — it resists going rancid and gives products a long, dependable shelf life. It sinks in light and dry-touch, conditioning skin and hair without leaving grease behind.
Quick Facts
The Plant & The Seed
The Jojoba Shrub
A tough evergreen shrub native to the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, California and northwestern Mexico. It thrives in punishing heat and drought, and a single plant can keep producing seed for well over a hundred years.
The Seeds
The dark, oversized seeds are roughly half liquid wax by weight. Cold-pressing them releases jojoba's signature golden wax — no heat or solvents needed to draw out that richness.
The Compound Profile
Jojoba is around 97% wax esters — long-chain fatty acids bonded to long-chain alcohols — which is what sets it apart from ordinary oils. Broken down by its principal fatty acids, the profile looks like this:
A few defining compounds are where jojoba's reputation comes from:
Key Benefits
Sebum-Balancing
Its wax-ester structure mirrors skin's own oil, so it can help balance rather than overload — even on oilier skin.
Light & Fast-Absorbing
Sinks in dry-touch without a greasy film, leaving skin and hair soft rather than slick.
Remarkably Stable
As a wax it resists rancidity, giving blends a long, dependable shelf life.
