The Basics

What it is

Castor oil is pressed from the seeds of the castor plant. It stands apart from almost every other oil because up to 90% of it is ricinoleic acid — a rare fatty acid found in barely any other plant — which is what gives castor its signature thickness, slip and glossy finish.

That density makes a little go a long way. It coats and conditions, lends body to balms and oils, and leaves a noticeable sheen — which is why it's a long-standing favourite in brow, lash, beard and hair formulas.
