Candelilla Wax
Candelilla Wax
A firm, golden plant wax from the candelilla shrub of the Mexican desert — the leading vegan stand-in for beeswax, with strong thickening power that lets a little do a lot in balms and sticks. Hover any measure to see where candelilla sits on the scale.
What it is
Candelilla wax is harvested from the waxy coating of the candelilla shrub, a small reed-like plant that grows in the deserts of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. The plant coats its stems in wax to conserve water; that coating is boiled off and refined.
It's the leading vegan alternative to beeswax — harder and with more thickening power, so a smaller amount achieves the same set. It brings firm structure and a light sheen to balms, sticks and bars.

Key Benefits
Vegan Alternative
The go-to plant-based replacement for beeswax.
Strong Thickener
Hard and efficient — a little firmly sets a blend.
Smooth Sheen
Lends a light, even gloss to balms and sticks.
How we use it
Candelilla is our plant-based setter — we use it to give firm structure and a light sheen to vegan balms, sticks and bars in place of beeswax.
Because it's harder than beeswax, we use less of it and balance it with softer butters and oils for the right finish.
