The Basics

What it is

Camellia oil — known as tsubaki in Japan — is pressed from the seeds of Camellia oleifera, a relative of the tea plant. It is one of the most oleic-rich plant oils, comparable in feel to a light, fast version of a richer oil.

Long used by geisha and sumo wrestlers to condition skin and hair, it sinks in quickly and leaves a smooth, glossy finish — a refined everyday oil for face, body and ends of hair.
